Any motorcycle riders in here?

100% you can remove that. Its only purpose is to restrict the ramp plate underneath it. While it is on, the ramp plate cant open up all the way. It will hit the bell shaped restrictor before then.

You remove the 3 bolts, then remove that outer bell portion and the little black rubber band gasket. Assemble the variator on the boss the same way you normally would with the ramp plate holding the rollers/sliders in. Now your variator can open up all the way and allow the belt to go deep & achieve full travel. Full travel = full speed. As for roller weights, 9g is 9g whether roller or slider. The difference is in the pitch of the ramp. Sliders have that flat wedge shape on top that utilize 100% of the ramp angle on the variator where the round rollers just dont perfectly fit the flat angle of the variator ramp. Theres small losses between the round roller and the flat ramp angle before any centrifugal force does its job.
If you want a little more on the top end speed you want a slightly heavier roller/slider. Doing this may slightly increase your "0 - top speed" time.
If you want some more speed off the line up to a slightly reduced top speed, you want to go slightly lighter on the rollers.
IIRC, they are 16x13 10g rollers in there stock? Id suggest some 11g and see if it gets your top speed up a little. If its too much you can alternate the weights (3) 10g & (3) 11g to get a 10.5 avg.
Your gonna have to play around a bit, but you will find your "goldilocks tuning". I dont have a doubt youre gonna see 45mph on it regularly. Certainly if your hitting 40 now.
thanks for the info, I appreciate you taking the time. I think it's 18x14 for the ch80 (the 50cc's are 16x13 i think).

All good stuff, I agree it will take trial and error to find the goldilocks tuning. The idea of swapping rollers/slides out over and over sounds somewhat sisyphean.

This has me thinking about forums, back in the day I learned alot but it was it's own skill to find good info.

This scooter stuff reminds me of that, sketchy info on forums and harder to find.

I learned alot about car audio from forums.
I learned everything about growing from RIU.

With cannabis it's alot easier now. So much more info and high quality equipment readily available.

Let alone the potency of street flower is stronger and more consistent than brick weed back in the day haha.

Someone on icmag was asking if I'd check out the discord. Idk, I'm slow to change. I'm sure it's cool, but the platform seems odd to me.

That said, I do wonder what the fate of forums will be in the new age of social media. Time will tell, for now I am just going to stay on forums with the old school folks.

When I got my BigRuckus, the Total Ruckus website was still rocking mostly Ruckus folk, but the BR's did get their own section.
BRed, showed many of us how to *tune* our variators, he did great roller weight changes, and then verified them with test after test, graphing out each run, to each specific weight rollers, and then with sliders.
How to do it, and what jet sizes, to get for re-jetting the KEIHIN carb.
When I re-jetted mine, I also opted to drill out the vacuum hole, in port slide , 1 drill bit size larger. Letting more into the carb, for the larger re-jetting size.
I also, *due to many years of fitting printing press parts together* the importance of removing, casting flash.
So I spent a day, going over every millimeter of my variator internal area, , polishing, every roller/slider pocket, every surface the belt traveled on.
I also where my variator's lowest point of travel, I filed that face down maybe 1/8th or so. Now the belt can get a squeak lower into the variator.
The Honda BR came with 156 grams of roller weights, BRed found through his testing, that 118 grams was the area to shoot for, to keep your off line jump, and most of your top end speed.
Added a K&N filter.
Had a YSS shock absorber made for my BR.
I also sharpened a length of re-bar, then going 17 5/8" through the muffler exiting pipe, I knocked a hole in the third baffle, and got a bit more power to use.
None of these items we did, make a huge difference, but adding them all, up, gave more jump of the line, with out loosing to much top end.

Hey HydroRed, if you know of any rides in your area, I can not say for sure can make it, but I'd love to ride your area for a few days, week or so maybe.
I rode down to North Carolina a couple of times, to run the mountain roads with a wild Ruckus pack, and once riding the coastal areas, with a bunch of Groms, they were both crazy fun!!

I've owned a couple different Honda Elite 150 scooters. I had a 1987 and later, a 1985.

Here's the first one, the '87

I had it skellied-out, since the body panels were all rotted I just stripped it down. Roller weights, a dirt bike pipe, short intake & reject the carb, I had this thing topping out at 74mph and would hit top speed within 30 seconds.

Here was my '85, this one would hit 68mph without mods.

Both of em had random Ruckus parts on them, as I was part of the Total Ruckus scene & had great access to various stock parts:

Ruckus taillight and blinkers

Ruckus speedometer

Also had a really cool TW200 that I also did some work on, but this one had a fuel delivery issue I could never fix, so it had to go.

Damn, I love those skellies!
Have you ever seen the guy from Italy, BM Moto Art/Italy
He uses old platforms, and revives them into stunning machines.
There is a list of his conversions. I love his work!!
