I don't blame you at all, sure Gelato is a fad strain but it's TASTY. I've never had a Gelato or Gelato-dominant cross that I didn't genuinely like. Runtz too
I believe you and I don't doubt it. I'm pretty certain I'm going to love them too. I have used a Gelat.OG in an old blend of mine that I love. My growing ethos and relationship with the FAD strains actually has nothing to do with quality at all. I don't doubt for a second they're excellent, but my passion for breeding is primarily based on nostalgia and preservation. The 90's were my favorite years and exploring what feels like "primitive" genetics just fuels me.
For years I've lived on seed finder combing parental lineages like Indiana Jones looking for the lost arc. The legacy and heirloom strains I grew up with were basic, small to non-existent parental trees. Throughout the last couple of decades, those parental trees have become much larger, with many branches beginning to overlap. Once we factor in easy access to cuts, the sharing of clones, feminized seeds and those FAD strains, we're accelerating into a genetic funnel. Essentially, the majority of people are limited to their experiences because it's the same family reunion, albeit a different relative. Because of this, my passion is also driven by preservation. Preserving experiences and unlocking new possibilities by starting over. I prefer working with primarily landrace and old school genetics that have a minimal parental footprint already. For me, it's like starting with a blank canvass.
With all of that said, from time to time I will grow something "new" or even work with it. I just need to be mindful and not contaminate the other genetic pools. I'm trying to unlock Pandora's box with my selections and create new building blocks for unique experiences. I would say the biggest reason I've also stayed away is because running them would push my own plans back an entire cycle. It's actually how I ended up here currently. I lost a tray of old genetics, wrote this cycle off, started popping new seeds of all varieties, and came home with clones one day.
I'll also add that the curiosity of something old blended with something new does intrigue me. Which is why I'm mulling over the idea of pollinating some branches with Mango Haze. At some point I want to work on a purple strain and I plan to start with my Ground Pounder whose mom was my Gelat.OG purp cut. So I've rationalized to myself that any seeds from this run could be grown during that time. But IDK, we'll see
Fucking epic intro. I also look forward to the journey ahead!
Thanks Bruv
