I listen to Brothers in arms quite often, along with a lot of other Dire Straits Songs and any of his own A to Z...

I’ll always remember the animated video clip to that of a small boat in huge seas bobbing over the waves barely surviving . Those lyrics are some of the best ever written to me anyway . The world could do well in our current situation to take note

...being a Captain / Mariner and experiencing some of the biggest seas the North Atlantic can throw at you fishing George's banks I often feel a deep sorro for the crew of the Edmund fitzgerald and the song moves me to my core everytime.

Gordon lightfoot already had the Irish melody done and wrote the lyrics to go with it...when he recorded it he had all the lights in the studio shut off so he could feel what it might of been like for the 29 men, most of them confined to their quarters because it was such a monster of a storm...it must of been horror for those men!

This a very creepy photo of the Fitz the day it was launched...in the photo there are 29 men on the stern of the boat that were workers where the ship was built...many years later, many nautical miles and many shipping records on the Great lakes the Edmond fitzgerald sank...With 29 Men onboard!

I wasn’t aware of this song until recently stumbling across it on YouTube last year . It prompted me to research the event to both learn and understand just what happened to the ship and crew .
The story left me feeling a little haunted probably because of the song still lingering in my head .
A couple of things I didn’t realise was just how massive these lakes are and the size the sea state can build up to in adverse weather conditions . I understand unless I’m mistaken the lakes are so massive they are tidal as well which is remarkable .
I’ve had a number of close calls over the years and often thought yep it’s part of the deal but to die at sea in terrible conditions must be horrifying . Mostly because you’d pretty well know your chances of survival were next to nil and the isolation of more than likely a solitary death as at that stage it would mostly be every man for themself once you were swept into the seas .
I hope they went quickly rather than toiling away hoping for a miracle that would never come .
Huge compassion for any lives lost at sea be it war time or whenever .

And then on the flip side you have days like this . I took this snap a few years ago capturing to me what was a peaceful a moment as I’d get on the water except for the two big Diesel engines chugging away in the background . It’s a passion of mine capturing moments on the Ocean . Second pic is a partially loaded Cape Class bulk carrier gliding through the water

Favourite singer. Frontman would be Freddie mercury, but singer would be Jeff Buckley. Just can't listen to Jeff very often as it gets me down.

Guitarist. Eddie van Halen was great, Tom morello shredding would be another. Toss up for me.

Funeral song. It's a toss up between psycho killer or a gift of a thistle. I'll leave that up to my family to decide. I have requested a wooden boat and charging 5 bucks per flaming arrow at my boat to send me off to the next life. What a great way to have a funeral and wake and not cost the family a cent hahahaha

You al most need two classes of favourite singer being frontmen included . Bon Scott for me is a huge “ what if ?” Rock is littered with What ifs though I guess . That 27 club has most of them unfortunately .
